GOD's
GENTLE LEADING
by Jether

The
last few months were worth reflecting. What I can see is God's hands working
and placing me where I am now. It started during my senior year in college
when some graduates from Southern Mindanao encouraged me to be an IVCF
staff. Then, I started to pray about it only to shelf it later.
Two months after
graduation I joined the rushing world of job hunters. I knew my capabilities
but things did not turn out well. No job was available and it went on for 3
months. I prayed that the Lord would change the situation to my favor. Days
later, I was invited to an IVCF RAC meeting in Southern Mindanao thinking
that I would just represent our local IVCF chapter. Never did I know that I
would be invited to be Regional Collector & Press Relation Officer. I
accepted the invitation in spite of my visually disadvantaged eyes. In the
midst of my limitation God’s grace abound. He helped me got into the right
bus or jeepney, reached the correct street, & protected me in crossing
busy streets. Those experiences helped me cling on to God.
Colorful
as those experiences were, my concern for my family compelled me to share to
the staff and RAC officers and members. I expressed my desire to serve God
as an associate staff & whether I will be taken or not, I will no longer
serve as the Regional Collector & PRO. The RAC decided to take me in as an associate staff for North Cotabato granted that
the graduates there would raise the amount for my salary. As our RAC
campaigned throughout the area, some graduates expressed willingness to
support me financially & in prayers. I was deeply encouraged.
During the
Regional ISCF camp last April & the GT conference last May, my desire to
serve God among students was reinforced. The June staff conference helped me
see the larger picture of what I have been doing in our small area of
ministry. It also helped me to see the larger picture of the ministry I am
in.
I thank the Lord
for leading me this far. I know that there are lots of difficulties and
challenges ahead of me. Nevertheless, three things inspire me to take the
challenge. First is the vision that God gave InterVarsity; one that is worth
investing for Christ’s sake. Second
is the comfort of knowing that I have partners with me and there were others
who willingly gave themselves to God for this vision. Finally is the
assurance that God works with and through us. I am convinced that the Lord
will equip those He called. I give myself in grateful obedience.
Your
prayers and support will surely be of great value not only to me as a staff,
but ultimately to God. After all, we are just vessels for God to use and
fill. May the God of peace be with you.
